Lesson 0.3 - A Consistent Stream Of Success | Click To Read More . . .

Hi I'm Jon Gunzel and welcome to the next lesson in the Stories to Success System.

In this lesson you will learn how we build our businesses consistently every single day and how to create the consistent, relentless progress that results in big wins.  This lesson will get you through the hard days and have you celebrating your success!

{S2S Intro Splash}

I remember when we started our first business, a photography studio in our hometown of Payson, Arizona.  I wanted it all and I wanted it all right now.  I worked endless hours, burning the candle at both ends, giving up all the things I wanted most so I could grind away and MAKE my business into a success.

I trained like a madman, took on every job I could find, and invested every single penny back into the business.

Guess what happened?  We built a very profitable photography studio and I eventually burned out and closed the doors because I just couldn't give up any more of myself to the business.  It was devastating to have given up so much of my life and have to quit.  I knew I would never build a business that way again.

Now don't get me wrong, building a business is a huge undertaking that does take a lot of time and energy, but it doesn't have to be soul sucking.  It can be uplifting and exciting and you can and should make time to enjoy life along the way, or what's the point.  I build my businesses so I can help other people and if there's one thing my time as a police officer taught me, it's that I can't help anyone else if I don’t take care to arrive safely myself.

So how do we build a business while also living an amazing life?  We practice a couple techniques that keep us progressing steadily while also ensuring we make time to enjoy and keep ourselves healthy.

First, one of my favorite quotes for business building and really for anything I want to accomplish in life comes from Charlie Munger, business partner to Warren Buffet and self-made billionaire.

He said,

"Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up.

Discharge you duties faithfully and well.

Step by step you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts.  But you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts…

Slug it out, one inch at a time, day by day.

At the end of the day - if you live long enough - most people get what they deserve." - Charles T Munger

Do yourself a favor and memorize this quote.  Each day do something to make yourself a little wiser, learn from those who have gone before you.  Realize this business you are building will not get done in a day or a week or even a month.  But it WILL get done, step by step, day by day if you keep at it.  If you build it faithfully and well, eventually you'll have something that will serve you the rest of your life.

You know there's a saying that is quick fixes are named for how long they stay fixed.  It applies to business, too.  Take the time to build it correctly and you'll be deserving of success.

Second, One of our favorite books is "The One Thing" by Gary Keller.  This book taught us that multitasking is impossible and willpower cannot be relied on.  There are many great lessons in this book, but the most important take away is to concentrate all your effort on one thing at a time.  Work the project, lesson, or activity you are currently on and nothing else.  Put away all distractions and dedicate time to work on the ONE THING that is going to get you closer to the results you want.

Finally, you heard me refer to it in the last lesson.  Take the Shortcut To Success, do it right the first time.  By enrolling in the Stories to Success program, you now have a framework to, step by step, build a successful business.  Put your best effort into it.  When you get discouraged, stop and take a breath, go for a walk, hug your family, eat some food that makes you feel healthy, take your vitamins and then get back to work and do it right the first time.  No shortcut that skips these steps will result in a business that lasts for long.

We are building for the long run and if you follow the steps in this program you'll get to the end having lived a wonderful life WHILE building a strong and healthy business.

Your action steps for this lesson are:

  1. Memorize the quote by Charlie Munger:

"Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up.

Discharge you duties faithfully and well.

Step by step you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts.  But you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts…

Slug it out, one inch at a time, day by day.

At the end of the day - if you live long enough - most people get what they deserve." - Charles T Munger

  1. Practice focusing on ONE THING at a time:

"Focus on The ONE THING and ONLY The ONE THING! - Garry Keller

  1. Commit yourself to taking the Shortcut to Success - by doing it right the first time.

"Take the Shortcut To Success - Do it right the first time." - Jon Gunzel

Write these 3  things on a notecard or piece of paper and put them where you will see them every single day.

So, with that in mind, Lesson #4 will help you get set up with a structure to help you stay focused, organize your thoughts and prepare for the future.  To do that, you must begin at the beginning . . .

You're well on your way to a solid foundation.  Keep up the great work and I'll see you in the next lesson.
