Hi I'm Jon Gunzel and welcome to the next lesson in the Stories To Success System.

In this lesson we'll become professional stalkers as we learn all about our Ideal Clients and their likes, habits, hangouts and dreams.  By the time were done we will know more about them than they know about themselves.

On September 11th, 2001 I was in the Police Academy in Monmouth, Oregon training to be an officer for the City of Corvallis.  That morning, I got out of bed and began to put on my uniform.  Thankfully I put my pants on first because my neighbor burst through the door of my dorm room and said I had to run to the tv down the hall, our country was under attack.

As I stood half naked, watching the twin towers fall, I became hyperaware of the fact that we had to find out who was behind these attacks and bring them to justice.  As we progressed through our training, I concentrated on the detective skills that would teach me how to identify, locate and apprehend those that wished to do others harm. 

What I learned, continues to serve me well to this day and now I'd like to share it with you.

Ok, so in the last lesson, we identified our Ideal Client, now it's time to track them down because knowing who they are is great, but now we need to be able consistently find them and connect with them to have a functioning business.

One of the first useful tools I learned in the Police Academy was how to research.  Suspects (and Ideal Clients) leave clues that show us exactly where to find them.  As we learn more about them, we can then predict where and when they will show up and be there waiting and ready for them.

A great story I remember was we had a shoplifter who was a repeat offender.  My training officer knew his routine so well, we knew the exact route he took every time he left the store.  We had learned all about him over the last couple months, but somehow, he continued to elude us.  He always disappeared into the same apartment complex and we could never quite catch him. 

Finally one day, we went to the apartment on our own to investigate how he was getting away. We found an emergency exit on the back of the building that we'd never seen before.  It was just the clue we needed.

The next day, he pulled his little heist again and my fellow officers were giving chase.  Like clockwork, he ran into the apartments.  This time, though, I was ready for him.  I ran around to the back door and jammed my foot against the bottom.

Sure enough he came flying down the stairs and tried to burst through the door.  Now I'm 6'4 and 300 pounds.  When he hit that door, it sounded like a car wreck!  Sure enough, I opened the door to find him unconscious on the other side.  Mission accomplished, my research paid off.

Let's hope we're all a little more friendly to our Ideal Clients than I was to that poor guy, but I think you get the point.  By learning all we can about our Ideal Client, we can predict when and where they will be and position our products and advertisements where they will have the best results.

The questions are pretty self-explanatory, so instead of going through each one, we're going to talk about where we are going to find these clues. 

We live in the most amazing time in all of history to be a human being!  Our access to information is easier than ever and our ability to reach our Ideal Clients is more powerful than ever before. Thanks to the invention of the internet, we are able to quickly and deeply connect with Ideal Clients across the globe and tailor our products and ads directly to them like never before.

So, that's where we are going to focus our efforts at first.  Online research. 

Some tricks use are to look up my ideal clients Facebook page or Instagram profile.  I look through their likes and see who they are following.   I read their posts for the past couple months or years. I really get to know them.  Often you can complete much of the Ideal Client Detective Worksheet with this one step. 

The idea is to be able to THINK exactly like your client.  What do they like, what are their dreams and aspirations, what do they struggle with, what do they fear.  It's also important to use their language, speak like they speak, use the words they use.  It's all so important!

Now don't think this is just a tactic or trick to make sales.  People like us who are really serious about building a long term successful business realize creating amazing, long term relationships with our clients is the key.  Really get to know them and understand what it is THEY care about.

You know, Trina and I were high school sweethearts and have been together for over 27 years.  In our marriage consulting events, we often get asked what we would do if we were single or had to start over.  I know for me, I would want to find a mate who valued family, education, healthy eating, travel, and church. 

So I'm not going to go to a bar to try and find a date!  I'm going to hang out at Whole Foods, the public library, on a cruise in Europe and go to church every Sunday.  Makes sense, right?

You have to show up where your Ideal Client hangs out. To do that you have to be able to think how they think.  This research project will help you do exactly that.

#1  Download the Ideal Client Research Worksheet.

#2  Put on your detective hat and begin to research and discover every little detail you can about your client.

#3 As you learn, try to begin thinking like your Ideal Client.  What other things might they be interested in.  What secret likes and desires do they have but not share with the world.

This will be the MOST valuable step you ever take in your business.  Truly successful businesses know exactly how their clients THINK and can predict what they will want next.  I think you can see how this will make you very powerful.
